Antioxidants protect the body from the damaging effects of unstable molecules known as free radicals. The effect of free radicals on our bodies is called "oxidative stress." Think of it as a kind of cellular "rust" we need to protect against. Fortunately, there are many nutrients with antioxidant activity. Some of the most well-known, are antioxidant vitamins you've certainly heard about: A, C, and E.

But why bother with antioxidants? Because they can protect your body's most valuable players--your heart, lungs, and brain--against the oxidative stress we face every day.† Some antioxidants even have the power to help keep your skin looking its best!† And really, who wouldn't want to keep a healthful glow?

Of course, there are a lot of antioxidant supplements available, so choosing just one can be difficult. And, not every antioxidant works in the same way. So, for the same reason you should eat a wide variety of foods for a broad range of benefits (and tastes), it's a good idea to try different antioxidants for the most free-radical quenching activity, too.†
