Spring Checklist

You may have looked forward to the season for some time, but as it begins, you get a real sense of amnesia about what you wanted to do all winter. So, make a checklist of fun. Jot down some of the things you’d love to accomplish this spring. Here are a few ideas just to get you started:

  • Find that sunlight.  Start getting a little sun in your life right now. As weather and time permits, get outside when the sun is shining. Even on a brisk day, it’ll lighten your mood and get you ready for the spring warmth that’s soon to follow.
  • Tune up that bicycle.  Even if you plan on pedaling around the neighborhood, you want to make sure that your set of wheels is ready to roll. Beyond brake lines, shifters, and tires, on a bike they’re all critical systems. If you don’t feel comfortable tuning it yourself, check out your local bike shop. It’ll be money well-spent.
  • Try on a new pair of running/walking shoes. Old shoes can be comfortable around the house and yard, but they usually don’t have the foot support you need for regular exercise like running or walking. Serious runners typically replace footwear throughout the year because the insoles get so broken down. If you just want to stretch your legs a few times during the week, consider just picking up a new pair this spring.
  • Start building your calendar. If you wait until summer...it'll already be full. Take the time now to start building out your plans over the next few months including any athletic events that you've been considering. Have a fitness or health goal? Mark it on the calendar!
  • Make a wish list for this summer, too.  Think about what you’d like to do this summer, write it down, and do it. If you’ve considered putting in a vegetable garden, there’s no time like right now to get some graph paper, sketch out what you’d like to plant, and get those seeds. If you’d like to just take it easy, take some days off and do a “stay-cation” than plan on the week you want to do it. Make it a point use that time to explore parks in your own town that you’ve overlooked.
