Overview
Why is biotin important?
It's the "hair vitamin"
Biotin is a B vitamin that helps your body maintain healthy tissue and collagen structure.† But, B vitamins are water soluble, so they should be replenished every day.†
Why take Lustrous Hair and Nails?
It features the proven dosage of biotin
In fact, one study found that supplementation with B-complex including biotin led to a 25 percent increase in nail thickness.†
It includes all the essential B vitamins, plus vitamin C
B vitamins are crucial for cells that use energy rapidly.† Working together, B vitamins along with vitamin C and zinc have been shown to nourish and promote the growth of strong nails, healthy hair, and skin - cells that replicate quickly.†

- Full spectrum B vitamins for enhanced results
- Vegetarian
Structure/Function
Lustrous Hair & Nails helps maintain healthy hair, skin, and muscle tissue.
How Does It Work?
While early food scientists considered vitamin B a single vitamin, continued research has demonstrated it to be a complex of chemically distinct vitamins that often coexist in the same foods. As water-soluble vitamins, the B vitamins require frequent replenishment.
Research has shown that B vitamins are crucial to the health of skin and hair.
In fact, lack of biotin is associated with brittle nails and dry, damaged hair.
Vitamin C, also water-soluble, is a nutrient closely linked to healthy skin, gum tissues, and teeth.
The following table provides detailed findings on the benefits of each nutrient in Lustrous Hair & Nails:
| Ingredient | Benefit |
| Biotin | Biotin is an essential B vitamin that plays an important role in human energy. Through the catalyzation of essential enzymes, biotin participates in carbohydrate metabolism, the synthesis of fatty acids, gluconeogenesis, and the transformation of amino acids into proteins.1 Healthy hair and good skin quality and texture require an adequate and continuous supply of structural proteins and fatty acids.
One six month, retrospective study found that supplementation with B-complex including biotin led to a 25 percent increase in nail plate thickness. Sixty-three percent of study participants experienced clinical improvement.2
Commonly found in two forms, free biotin and the protein-bound coenzyme form called biocytin, the human body recycles and reuses biotin through a chain of chemical reactions.3 This unique cyclic activity is key to skin, hair, and nail health. |
| Pantothenic Acid | Once pantothenic acid is changed to coenzyme A, it helps convert fat, carbohydrate, and protein into energy.4 Skin, hair, and nail cells have a high turn-over rate and require a continuous supply of energy to maintain optimal health. |
Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) | Healthy collagen, connective tissue, bone tissue, and dentin (tooth tissue) formation depend on vitamin C. Collagen is a key connective protein in the body; it is responsible for maintaining healthy skin tone and resilience. As a powerful antioxidant, vitamin C protects skin cells against oxidative damage.5-7 |
Thiamin (as thiamin HCl) | Also known as vitamin B1, thiamin helps support healthy metabolism of carbohydrates.8 High levels of thiamin are need to support the high energy requirements of healthy hair, nail and skin cells. |
Riboflavin (vitamin B2) | Another member of the B vitamin family, riboflavin helps support the healthy metabolism of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates to enhance cellular energy. Riboflavin also supports the health of skin, nails, and hair.9 |
Niacin (as niacinamide) | Niacin supports the body's natural anti-inflammatory response, which is important for healthy skin complexion.10 |
Vitamin B6 9as pyridoxine HCl | This water-soluble vitamin supports the healthy conversion of stored carbohydrates or other nutrients to energy.11 |
| Folic Acid | Folic acid has several important functions – it supports the healthy production and maintenance of new cells, supports healthy deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) replication and ribonucleic acid (RNA) transcription, and supports healthy amino acid utilization, all of which promote hair and nail cell growth.12-15 |
Vitamin B12 (as cyanocobalamin) | Well recognized for its support of red blood cell production, vitamin B12 also supports the body's energy demands. Up to 30% of people over age 50 have reduced ability to absorb adequate vitamin B12 from meat or dairy products.16 |
Zinc (as zinc sulfate) | Involved in more than 100 enzymatic actions and re-actions in the body, zinc is crucial to human health. Zinc supports healthy protein and collagen formation and healthy DNA synthesis.17
Clinical studies have shown that zinc also supports the body's natural anti-inflammatory response, which is important for clear skin. Research also suggests that zinc decreases the production of free fatty acids that can block skin follicles, further enhances skin quality.18, 19 |
The Biotin Cycle
The biotin cycle is a chain of chemical reactions involved in the use and reuse of the vitamin (Figure 1). In the presence of the enzyme biotinidase, bound biotin is separated from protein to become free biotin, the form used by the body. Biotinidase allows the body to recycle and reuse biotin over and over again. Many researchers attribute biotin's ability to support the health of skin and hair to this unique cyclic activity.2
