How Does It Work?
The ingredients in
Earth's Promise Purple contain vitamins, minerals, and key compounds that have been shown in scientific research to support major body systems.
They are also high in antioxidant activity to help reduce the effects of oxidative stress.
Typically excellent sources of fiber, the ingredients in earth's promise are also naturally low in fat and sugar and contain no cholesterol.
While there are many ingredients that contribute to the overall nutrient value in Earth's Promise Purple, there are six main nutrients provided: vitamin C, quercetin, ellagic acid, anthocyanins, fiber, and overall antioxidant power.
Vitamin C: Although vitamin C is mostly associated with oranges, it is present in many other sources as well, including strawberries. Vitamin C is one of the best-known vitamins, especially for its support of immune health.1 Less well-known, however, is the role that vitamin C has in supporting healthy joints and connective tissue.2-5
The amount of vitamin C found in one serving of Earth's Promise Purple is equivalent the level found in ½ cup of strawberries.
Quercetin is a flavonoid found in apples, onions, citrus fruits, and blackberries. Scientific studies have shown that quercetin supports healthy cholesterol levels already within normal limits, and supports healthy immune response.6,7 The amount of quercetin in Earth's Promise Purple is equivalent to the amount found in 1 cup of blackberries.
Ellagic acid is a component of ellagitannins-dietary polyphenols with antioxidant properties. Polyphenols are the basic building blocks of many plant-based antioxidants. More complex phenolic compounds, such as flavonoids are created from these molecules.8
Ellagic acid is found in many fruits and foods, including raspberries, strawberries, pomegranates, and walnuts. Clinical studies suggest that ellagitannins and ellagic acid act as antioxidants in the gastrointestinal tract.8
ATP (adenosine triphosphate) is the molecule that provides the primary energy source for the cells in the human body. Ellagic acid supports healthy cellular ATP production.9,10 The amount of ellagic acid found in Earth's Promise Purple is equal to that of 1 cup of red raspberries.
Anthocyanins: Fruits such as elderberry, blueberry and strawberry contain anthocyanins, which are considered powerful natural antioxidants. However, the beneficial compounds in fruits not only fight against free radical damage, but also encourage natural digestive enzyme activity and boost natural immune defenses.11
Fiber: Dietary guidelines recommend a range of 21 to 38 grams of fiber per day. However, given the prevalence of refined foods in the typical modern diet, most Americans eat an average of 10 to 15 grams daily. The inulin and FOS blend, guar gum and fruit and vegetable ingredients in Earth's Promise Purple provide 4 grams of fiber per serving-16% of the daily recommended value.
Inulin fiber acts as a prebiotic in the digestive tract, promoting bile excretion and helping foster a healthy climate for probiotic beneficial bacteria. It also aids in the absorption of minerals such as calcium, magnesium and zinc.12,13
Soluble and insoluble fiber from inulin also supports healthy digestion and colon function by safely absorbing and eliminating toxins.13
Fiber promotes bowel movements and modulates gastric and intestinal physiology.14-18 Although human digestive juices can't digest fiber, intestinal flora that normally reside within the colon utilize fiber as a medium for microbial fermentation, resulting in the synthesis of vitamin K and biotin, and the formation of short-chain fatty acids (SCFA). The SCFA that are produced can be absorbed and used for energy by the mucosa of the colon to maintain the health of colon epithelial cells.14-18 The effects of SCFA increase fecal matter bulk by supporting a healthier intestinal environment. Fiber has been demonstrated in numerous clinical studies to provide support of gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, immune, and endocrine function health.14-18 The total amount of fiber found in one serving of Earth's Promise Purple is equivalent to that of one bowl of oatmeal.
In addition to its ability to support the retention of healthy cholesterol levels already within normal limits, guar gum also plays a part in regulating blood glucose levels already within normal limits. In a clinical trial, guar gum significantly supported blood glucose levels compared with controls.19
The inulin and fructooligosaccarides in Earth's Promise Purple also support calcium absorption, a crucial factor in maintaining healthy bone density.12,20
ORAC and antioxidant power:
ORAC is an acronym for Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity, and is simply a measurement of antioxidant activity of nutrients. Oxidation is common in virtually every activity that fuels the body. Oxygen radicals are a normal byproduct of the processes that fuel the body's systems. These “singlet oxygen” atoms are highly unstable and will bind with other cells, destroying them in the process.
Antioxidants “loan out” extra molecules to stabilize the oxygen atoms. A high ORAC rating signifies a potent antioxidant. Many fruits or vegetables are said to act as antioxidants in the body. These include the ingredients found in Earth's Promise Purple. In fact, the ORAC value of one serving of Earth's Promise Purple is equivalent to that of ½ cup of cranberries.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why aren't vitamin and mineral amounts listed on some of our products, like Earth's Promise Purple: Berry-Pomegranate?
Our labels follow requirements set forth by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Vitamins and minerals that are added for the purpose of supplementation must be listed on the label; however, if a nutrient is naturally occurring as part of an ingredient, it is not listed unless it is present as a level specified in the federal labeling guidelines.
While we have assessed the nutrient content of our Earth's Promise™ products, We do not measure vitamin and mineral content of every lot. Naturally occurring nutrients can vary significantly as Mother Nature doesn’t standardize. Nutrient content changes depending on where a crop is grown, the quality of the soil, and storage methods and times. Testing for every vitamin and mineral would be cost prohibitive and could be inaccurate unless performed on every batch. Some people prefer to obtain their nutrients in a way that is closer to what is provided naturally in grains, fruits and vegetables. That is what we offer with our Earth's Promise™ products.
Certainly there is also value in taking supplements that offer standardized amounts of vitamins and minerals. If customers would prefer taking this approach to their nutritional strategy, we would recommend a well-rounded multivitamin, such as Doctor’s Choice™ or Fatigued to Fantastic!® Energy Revitalization System™† (for those who would rather have a drink mix).
