Is Remifemin® safe for women with a history of breast cancer?
Remifemin® is safe for use by women who have had breast cancer. The black cohosh extract used in Remifemin® has been studied closely and found to not have estrogenic effects (in other words, it does not act like the hormone estrogen). Additionally, a pilot study of Remifemin® use in women who had or were being treated for breast cancer found no significant adverse effects. To date, the results have demonstrated that black cohosh safely and effectively reduced hot flashes and night sweats.†
Can I use Remifemin® with other drugs? With hormone replacement therapy (HRT)?
Although no adverse drug interactions have been reported to date, we recommend that, as with any dietary supplement, if you’re taking any prescription drug or any other over-the-counter product, please check with your doctor or pharmacist first before using Remifemin®. Your doctor or pharmacist is the best person to advise you based on your medical history and present state of health.
Remifemin® was really helping, but now my symptoms are starting to come back. Can I increase the dosage?
The short answer is yes, you can increase the dosage to 80 mg daily (two tablets in the morning and two tablets in the evening). There is no contraindication if you feel that you need additional support. In clinical trials, there were no differences in side effects when women took 40 mg per day or 80 mg per day.
However, most women notice relief when taking 40 mg (one tablet in the morning and one in the evening), the recommended level. The key is to be patient—benefits can take anywhere from 4 to 12 weeks to be fully realized. Also, it’s important to remember that menopause is not marked by a straight decline of estrogen production. There are peaks and valleys, and menopause symptoms may also increase and decrease before disappearing entirely.
How soon will I notice results?
Use Remifemin® for at least 8 weeks before deciding whether or not it works for you.
Remember, Remifemin® is a natural supplement. It may take time to catch up to your body’s natural cycles. You may notice improvements relatively quickly, but for some, it can take up to 12 weeks to experience the full benefits.†
How do I know Remifemin® is safe?
For nearly 50 years, Remifemin® has been tested in clinical trials. No drug interactions have been observed, and adverse events have been limited to mild—and quickly passing—stomach upset. And remember, over 1.5 million women have taken Remifemin® since it was introduced, and more than a billion tablets have been sold around the world.
How is Remifemin® different from other black cohosh products?
The RemiSure™ black cohosh in Remifemin® is an isopropanolic extract. This yields a more complete spectrum of compounds than black cohosh produced by other extraction methods. It is also the most clinically studied form of black cohosh, with over 90 published trials and research papers.
Should I take Remifemin® with food or on an empty stomach?
It’s up to you—whether you take Remifemin® with or without food is matter of personal preference and convenience. It can be taken before, with, or between meals and won’t impact the effectiveness of the product.
