Why use a natural menopause formula?
Why use Remifemin®?
Remifemin® provides effective relief for a 70% reduction of hot flashes, night sweats, irritability, mood swings and occasional sleeplessness and anxiety.† In fact, over 15 clinical studies prove it's a safe and effective alternative to HRT for the treatment of menopausal symptoms, thanks to its completely estrogen-free RemiSure™ black cohosh.†
You can expect to notice improvements within a few weeks, with full benefits after using Remifemin twice daily for 4-12 weeks.
The standardized black cohosh extract in Remifemin is:
Hot flashes (also referred to as hot flushes) are a sudden sensation of heat often accompanied by facial flushing and sweating that generally lasts a few seconds to a few minutes. When hot flashes occur during sleep they are referred to as night sweats. Their presence often leads to occasional sleeplessness, irritability, and mood swings. Some women experience few symptoms, while others experience various symptoms ranging from mild to fairly severe. This variation is normal and expected. 1-3
Until July of 2002, hormone replacement therapy (HRT) was the most common treatment to relieve the discomforts of menopause.4 Since that time, repeated findings from clinical research have concluded that, for most women, the harmful effects of estrogen and progestin are likely to exceed the benefits. 4-7 Health organizations world wide are strongly encouraging women with a personal or family history of heart disease, blood clots, and breast cancer not use HRT for menopausal symptom relief.5-8
Research to date suggests that black cohosh has no estrogenic activity. 9-11 No significant adverse effects have reported in clinical trials. It has been determined safe for use by women who have had breast cancer who cannot take estrogen.
Several European studies indicate that black cohosh, specifically Remifemin, may be as effective as hormone replacement therapy (HRT) in reducing hot flashes, night sweats, related occasional sleeplessness, irritability, and mood swings associated with menopause. 16-22 As Remifemin does not exert an estrogenic effect on breast tissue, it is suggested that it can be safely used by women with a history of breast cancer who cannot take estrogen. 9,12,13
Clinical Research Findings There have been numerous clinical and scientific studies of Remifemin. The most recent (Osmers, et al; 2005), a randomized, multicenter, double-blind clinical trial, compared the efficacy and tolerability of Remifemin in the treatment of menopausal symptoms compared with placebo.23 A total of 304 women were randomly allocated to receive 40mg of Remifemin or matching placebo daily for 12 weeks. The results showed that women in the Remifemin group experienced a significant decrease in hot flashes. No significant adverse effects were reported. 23
The following charts summarize findings in clinical studies of Remifemin:

Remifemin® is safe for use by women who have had breast cancer. The black cohosh extract used in Remifemin® has been studied closely and found to not have estrogenic effects (in other words, it does not act like the hormone estrogen). Additionally, a pilot study of Remifemin® use in women who had or were being treated for breast cancer found no significant adverse effects. To date, the results have demonstrated that black cohosh safely and effectively reduced hot flashes and night sweats.†
Can I use Remifemin® with other drugs? With hormone replacement therapy (HRT)?
Although no adverse drug interactions have been reported to date, we recommend that, as with any dietary supplement, if you’re taking any prescription drug or any other over-the-counter product, please check with your doctor or pharmacist first before using Remifemin®. Your doctor or pharmacist is the best person to advise you based on your medical history and present state of health.
Remifemin® was really helping, but now my symptoms are starting to come back. Can I increase the dosage?
The short answer is yes, you can increase the dosage to 80 mg daily (two tablets in the morning and two tablets in the evening). There is no contraindication if you feel that you need additional support. In clinical trials, there were no differences in side effects when women took 40 mg per day or 80 mg per day. However, most women notice relief when taking 40 mg (one tablet in the morning and one in the evening), the recommended level. The key is to be patient—benefits can take anywhere from 4 to 12 weeks to be fully realized. Also, it’s important to remember that menopause is not marked by a straight decline of estrogen production. There are peaks and valleys, and menopause symptoms may also increase and decrease before disappearing entirely.
Use Remifemin® for at least 8 weeks before deciding whether or not it works for you.
Remember, Remifemin® is a natural supplement. It may take time to catch up to your body’s natural cycles. You may notice improvements relatively quickly, but for some, it can take up to 12 weeks to experience the full benefits.†
