Can we talk about the elephant in the room?

Wait, I need to get another cookie to tackle this subject. Yes, I’m talking about resolutions and the battle of the bulge. Unfortunately, for some reason I felt the need to enlist and have been at this long enough to be a general or something.

It just never gets easier. I hear from many of you and on top of the hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings and occasional sleeplessness….you are frustrated about getting a “menopot.” Not some kind of “special brownie” 70’s experience, this is the dreaded additional weight around the belly area.  It’s especially frustrating if you have never had any weight issues before and have been diligent about healthy eating and exercise.  The fact is; many menopausal women see a weight gain of 2 to 10 pounds. We do know that the metabolic rate slows with age…so if you do the math, you can eat the same number of calories at age 20 as you do at age 50 and you will gain some weight.

Darn!

Just when we’ve perfected our recipes for red velvet cake and chocolate chip cookies. (I picked a few of my favorites, you fill in the blank with yours.)

So since this is just the way it is…what can we do?
  • Be proactive. The fact is, we may have to start watching what we eat more closely and exercise more…or start!
  • Check out some different weight bearing exercises like weights…or how about getting a Wii and “playing games” while exercising?
  • Look at portion size. Especially in America, we lose sight of what are the correct portion sizes. Many popular diet plans give you tricks, such as your meat portion should be the size of a deck of cards.
  • Rule out any medical problems. Get a yearly physical and don’t hesitate to bring up things that don’t seem quite right along the way with your doctor.
You feel a lot more like tackling this subject if you have the hot flashes, night sweats, and mood swings under control. That’s where Remifemin and Remifemin Good Night can make such a difference.

Why not grab a low-fat latte and do some exploring on our website?

We're more alike than you think.
All of us ladies entering or in full blown menopause have a lot in common. Apart from all the “science”, and what we know on an intellectual level of what is happening to us, there’s the stark reality of living day to day with the changes that menopause brings.
Help the men in your life "get it" when it comes to hot flashes
There were some very interesting letters to Dear Abby lately that you will enjoy if you are a lady in menopause and feel the men in your life “just don’t get it!”
Menopause can spark intense emotions, some positive, some negative. One of the problems that come along with menopause for many women is intensity in emotions. Sometimes that emotion can be anger….or feeling plain old mad.
