Once you are in your late forties or early fifties and beyond, you can throw around a few phrases and possibly give the impression that you were at Woodstock! It would be very cool to say you had been there right? (Hey if you were, let me hear from you!) Actually at almost 53, I would have been going on 13 years old, hardly the main age at the festival.
This month is the 40th anniversary of Woodstock which took place Aug 15 -17th in 1969. Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, the Who…so many musicians who went on to be legends graced the thrown together stage plucked down in the middle of a field. My favorites would have been Joan Baez and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. Billed as the Woodstock Music and Art Fair which actually ended being held in Max Yasgur’s farm field, the phenomenon ended up being one of the biggest parties of a generation. It also created one of the nation’s worst traffic jams which spurred a lot of local and state lawmakers to enact ordinances to ensure that nothing like this could ever happen so “randomly” again.
No one currently reflecting on that time probably gets bogged down in everything that went wrong. Instead the recollections of the era bring back the idea of freedom, youth, creativity and flower power.
So what does that make us…we women on the verge or in the heat of menopause? Are all those good feelings to be kept in the past? Even though we definitely see more wrinkles and bulges, have our minds moved so far from the idea of a wild party in a farm field with unabandoned rejoicing about life?
Whether or not you were at Woodstock or wish you were, don’t miss out on all the opportunities to embody the spirit of joy that comes across your path. To do that, you have to be doing all you can to help yourself with what can be a huge challenge; perimenopause and menopause.
