On the streetcar line

Did that bring back some memories? Did you sing The Clapping Song growing up in your neighborhood? Sometime when you are with your girlfriends, start remembering all the rhymes you knew as girls.

My mother told me
If I was goody
That she would buy me
A rubber dolly

It’s amazing that no matter what part of the country you grew up in, we all know many of the same rhymes. Good times! Aren’t you amazed that we can remember these kinds of things and yet we can miss our dentist appointment or continually misplace our keys. And, what was the name of that actor we saw in that movie that we really like?

So you start to wonder, am I losing it?

You wonder if it’s only you. You wonder if you are on the road to big problems.

Talk to your girlfriends. They are probably having this same type of experience. Because your ovaries are slowing down, it’s thought that the estrogen drop affects memory neurotransmitters in the brain. So, what can you do?

  1. Stop fretting that you are going crazy and start becoming creative with ways to help you remember things.

  2. Write things down.  Sticky notes are my new best friends.

  3. Get organized even if you haven’t been in the past. Now you really need to be! Use good old fashioned paper or use a planner online or in your phone.

  4. Keep a manageable schedule. It’s O.K. to say no. Hopefully you are past the time in your life when you feel you always have to say yes to every request for your time.

  5. Remember to take your Remifemin! Consistency is important. It’s safe, natural and clinically studied…but you have to remember to take it!
